Glossary

Some of these audio terms are relevant to Sony products directly and other terms are related to the audio and video industry in general. Some of the terms are “new” language adapted from the analog world from which many features of Vegas®, ACID®, and Sound Forge® are derived.

2-Pass-An encoding feature, allowing video to be scanned prior to actual encoding. During the first pass, the encoder determines how it will allocate bits during the encoding process. Slower encodes, but generally higher quality in high-motion video. Vegas 5 supports 2-pass encoding.

A/D Converter-Analog to Digital Converter. Many A/D’s are also D/A’s, which convert Digital back to Analog for monitoring.
