Imagine you go to see a famous illusionist like David Copperfield. During his show, you watch him get strapped down and locked into a large glass case. The scantily dressed assistant (because there’s always one) fills the case with water. They announce to the audience that this is very dangerous, and there are medical staff on standby in case of an emergency. The sense of anticipation in the room is palpable.

A few seconds later, after an explosive noise, the illusionist disappears. There is no sign of him. Surely it’s impossible. He was right there. You could see him as clear as day.
