Step 5: Place Objects on the Document Page or Master Page

You can place boilerplate elements and data-field placeholders on the document page, master page, or both. The choices you make are determined by the layout you are creating and the results you want to achieve in the merged document.

When you place objects on the master page, you have a few advantages that are not available if you put them on the document page:

  • The resulting merged document contains the original placeholders on its master page and includes the merged results on the document pages as overridden master items. You can then globally update the document with a change to a master item.
