7. Setting Up the Framework of a Template

THE FIRST STEP IN CREATING A TEMPLATE IS TO SET UP ITS FOUNDATIONAL framework—page dimensions, margins, columns, and any additional grid structure. Once the framework is in place, all the other template elements can be assembled. A well-designed framework enhances the organization of a template and ensures a smooth and efficient production workflow.

It’s worth mentioning that attention to detail at this stage of development is critical. As when building a house, you don’t want to have to go back and rework its foundation after you’ve already built the walls and put a roof on it. The time you spend developing and fine-tuning a template’s framework will repay you a thousandfold.
