5. The Anatomy of a Frame

FRAMES ARE THE BASIC BUILDING BLOCKS THAT MAKE UP THE VARIOUS OBJECTS of an InDesign document. They determine the boundary, position, and dimensions for each object on a page. InDesign requires that all text, graphics, and other objects be contained within a frame. You might think of a layout as an organized collection of frames that hold all the content, from simple color-filled shapes to text and images. Although this may seem restricting at first, you will soon find that InDesign’s frames are actually quite flexible.
