10.6. Practical Implications

Microsoft is clearly focused on making Windows an extremely storage-friendly platform. The successive releases of Windows NT described here show rapid progress in this direction. It is clear that Microsoft will play an increasingly important role in the enterprise storage industry.

For persons involved in making purchase decisions, it is worthwhile noting what features are present only in Windows Server 2003 and what features are common to both Windows Server 2003 and Windows 2000. Tracking the ISV or IHV road maps for these two operating systems is also a good idea.
