6.7. Practical Implications

Windows 2000 introduced support for dynamic disks. It is worthwhile watching how Microsoft improves support for dynamic disks—for example, during system setup and for OEM factory installation procedures.

The reparse point architecture should be of considerable interest to ISVs. IT officials should cross-check whether vendor software such as HSM software is making use of this architecture or not.

It is notable that other than Microsoft, no vendor has found it worthwhile to develop and sell a file system for the Windows NT platform. At least not yet.
