For your convenience, this section recaps all of the performance-related recommendations found in this chapter. Performance recommendations are given for index servers, query servers, and database servers.

Optimizing Query Server Performance

If users often experience long query execution times in the Search Centers, check your query server deployment against the following recommendations:

  1. Use a baseline topology that allows you to scale the farm with additional query servers.

  2. Use 64-bit multiple-core processors.

  3. Install at least 4 GB of memory.

  4. Isolate the content index files on separate high-speed SCSI disks in a RAID 10 configuration. Add more spindles to the disk array to increase total I/O throughput.
