Calculating Required Disk Space

This section describes how to calculate disk space requirements for the content indexes and search databases in a farm server topology. The calculated disk space requirement for a content index applies to index servers as well as query servers. However, if both roles are hosted on the same server, you do not need to calculate double the amount of space.

The size of a content index lies in the range 5 percent to 12 percent of the size of the crawled content. For example, consider crawling 1,000,000 documents with a total file size of 500 GB.
