Hardware Recommendations
In addition to the topology selected and the software boundaries, performance capabilities and availability are also governed by hardware limitations and redundancy, respectively. This section makes a number of general recommendations to help you choose the right hardware for your server farm. The following recommendations are primarily concerned with choosing hardware for optimal performance:
Buy 64-bit hardware. Although SharePoint can be deployed to 32-bit servers, it is highly recommended that you opt for 64-bit hardware along with a Windows Server 64-bit operating system.
