Managing Site-Level Search Settings

So far in this chapter, we’ve covered all the search administration settings at the level of the SSPs and at the farm level. These settings are managed by SharePoint administrators and SSP administrators, respectively. This section covers another group of search administration settings that are available to site collection administrators, and to some extent also site owners, at the following three levels:

  • SharePoint site collection. Settings at this level include local search scopes, the Search Center URL for the small Search box, and keywords associated with best bets.

  • SharePoint Web site. Excludes selected columns from being crawled or excludes the entire site and its content from being crawled.
