High-Level Overview of the Search Architecture

All of the Enterprise Search products described earlier in this chapter share a common index and search architecture. The scope and richness depend on the product and the version that you are deploying within your corporate network. Some products offer additional features, such as the support for Federated Search included in Microsoft Search Server 2008. These features are not, or are not yet, available in the other products. The following graphic illustrates the common components at a high level without tying them to a specific product. In this section, we’ll review the core components that are part of this architecture.
