Summary

This chapter discussed all of the prerequisites your system must meet before Solaris 9 can be installed. In addition, it provided a list of information that must be gathered before you begin the installation.

I also described the installation of the Solaris 9 operating environment onto a server using the interactive installation program suninstall. The interactive installation program provides a dialog that allows the system administrator to select software packages and create file systems on the new server.

Many additional tasks take place after the operating system is installed, such as setting up the NIS and the network environment. These topics are found in the networking chapters later in this book.
