Summary

This chapter introduced some of the more advanced tools that can be used for managing files and data on your system. In this chapter, I described how to locate files using the find command. Using find, you can locate files anywhere on the network as long as you know something about the file. In addition, you can use grep and egrep to search inside each file for specific patterns and text strings.

I also described how to use filters to remove data or to simply rearrange data displayed on your screen. Sometimes Solaris commands display large amounts of information that can be time consuming to sort through. Filters are powerful tools that can be used with Solaris commands to display only the specific data you are looking for.
