What Are Search Folders?

Search folders are "always on" searches of the Exchange database. You create them just like a custom folder, along with an additional property that contains a set of restrictions used to limit the search results for the folder. These restrictions reside in the Exchange database and are run when changes are made to the folders targeted by the search folder. Search folders can be created using an application programming interface (API) such as Exchange Web Services, or they can be added to a Mailbox by using client applications such as Microsoft Office Outlook.
