Exchange Web Services supports two types of attachments. File attachments contain the binary content of the attached file while Item attachments are ItemType descendants in and of themselves, and they can have their own attachments, thus creating an attachment hierarchy. The GetItem Web method can return metadata about an item’s attachments. But to retrieve the actual content of the embedded attachment, you must call the GetAttachment Web method. Creating an attachment is handled by the CreateAttachment Web method.
