Chapter 5. Items

An item is any non-folder that resides within a folder.[73] Users do not typically see "items" as such, but instead see one of the descendant types such as a message, calendar item, meeting request, or contact. This chapter covers the features that are common to all item types. The finer nuances of each descendant type will be handled in Chapter 6 (contacts), Chapter 7 (messages), Chapter 8 through Chapter 10 (calendar-related items), and Chapter 11 (tasks).
