Installing and Using Microsoft RAS and VPN Solutions for Windows 2000

With Windows 2000, Microsoft has added a new service called the Routing and Remote Access Service (RRAS). This versatile built-in product provides the following features:

  • Remote Dial-In Access Services RRAS is the equivalent of Windows NT 4.0 RAS when it comes to remote dial-in access.

  • IPSec and PPTP virtual private networking Using RRAS, you also can set up your Windows 2000 server as either an IPSec or PPTP VPN server, which can be accessed remotely from most Windows clients using the built-in PPTP client or can establish a secure VPN tunnel to a remote network through another RRAS server acting as either a PPTP or IPSec VPN server.
