Summary

This chapter covered the implementation of various QoS mechanisms within Cisco IOS. There are two general mechanisms employed to ensure that traffic streams receive the level of service they require—congestion management and congestion avoidance. Congestion management schemes covered include priority queuing, custom queuing, various forms of weighted fair queuing, and MDRR. RED is the congestion avoidance technique discussed.
