Summary

The architecture of the AGS+ and Cisco 7000 routers formed the foundation from which the later Cbus-based routers were built. Although Cisco's router architecture has now shifted toward newer designs, it's still useful to examine these early systems because much of the current IOS switching architecture is a relic of these early designs.

Chapter 5 moves on to one of the newer Cisco router architectures—Particle-Based Systems.
