Internet Xrefs

One of the most useful feature enhancements added in AutoCAD 2000 was the capability to attach URLs as external references (xrefs) in a drawing. Although conceptually simple, this extension provides an extremely powerful mechanism to keep drawings accurate and up-to-date. Drawings that are updated frequently by contractors, for instance, can be stored on an FTP server on the Internet. Master drawings can then reference these drawings externally by specifying URLs to the FTP site. As with other Internet features, the familiar user interface to attach a conventional xref has been extended to accept URLs, as shown in Figure 26.2.
