Multiple Development Languages

The .NET framework enables the developer to use a preferred language syntax to develop applications. This is good for the developer because the learning curve for developing a new technology should be substantially smaller. However, in reality, this might not be the case because the syntax of a language is only a small part of what is required to develop with it.

To elaborate a little more, if you know C++ and have been developing applications that deal with File Import and Export filters, does that mean that your experience is of use for developing a graphical information system? Probably not.
