How do people learn and remember? How can they be influenced and persuaded? The answer to both questions is through effective repetition. Whether learning how to play an instrument or trying to make sure that people fully understand and appreciate your main presentation point, repetition is critical.

remember.eps Dale Carnegie’s oft-mentioned rule of public speaking: “Tell them what you are going to tell them; tell them; tell them what you’ve told them” holds true for presentations. What you hear repeatedly, you eventually believe those in the influence and persuasion (and self-help) business tell us. Sales professionals discover on day one to repeat the benefits of their products or services. A carefully planned and smartly executed repetition strategy increases the effectiveness of your message. However, presenters who use this, the Law of Repetition, should also be aware of its pitfalls: overuse and misuse.
