This chapter presents a selection of revolutionary ideas for air transport in the latter part of the twenty-first century. The concepts look beyond the evolutionary developments of the current air transport system, by responding to defined forces for change that are evident today – such as climate change, hydrocarbon fuel shortages, communication systems in society, and large-scale demographic shifts. Drawing on scenarios for future air transportation demands and new technologies that may be available, innovative concepts that respond to change are outlined.
