INNOVATION DEFINED

The literature offers many different definitions of innovation, some more complex than others. To be practical, we like to use the following, easy-to-remember definition:

Innovation = Creating results by doing new things

Here are some key elements of our definition:

Innovation is about action. Some experts define innovation as a new product or service that is created; others focus on thinking differently. We take a behavioral perspective on innovation, focusing on the fact that people—your employees, partners, customers, or all three—need to change their behavior in order for innovation to happen. Helping people think differently is one thing; the real challenge is to help them act differently.
