Designing the database

Once your system is correctly installed and running properly, the job becomes one of deciding how to structure and organize the data. Decisions made at this time can have lasting impact upon the performance and usability of the database.

Depending upon the scope of the duties assigned to you as DBA, you may or may not have responsibilities in the actual design of the database. Even if you do not actually design the database, you need to be aware of the factors relating to the design decisions.
