Chapter 1. The Database Administrator: Doing the Job

There are probably as many different descriptions of the database administrator's job function as there are DBAs. Depending upon the complexity and culture of the firm, the database administrator can be anything from a developer who just happens to also wear a DBA hat all the way up to a member of a team of DBAs, all of whom have different responsibilities. Most will fall somewhere in the spectrum between the two extremes.
