I have always been casually fascinated by the potential of inflatable structures. Are not balloons, in which a maximum of structured volume is achieved with a minimum of material (because the latter is under tension), marvels of material economy? In an earlier incarnation as an architect I had often wondered at the remarkable possibilities offered by inflatable structures.
