Professor Johan Bekker, retired head of the Department of Library and Information Science, University of South Africa, Pretoria, who initially dared to bring me, as a relative outsider, into the exciting and stimulating field of library and information science and knowledge and information practice so close to my heart.

Professor Theo Bothma, currently head of the Department of Information Science at the University of Pretoria, who kept me involved in this fascinating field.
