Employability, informal learning and the role of the public library

Abstract:

This chapter explores further some of the issues first raised in Chapter 5 by discussing the nature of information literacy and how it is applied in ordinary people’s everyday lives. In this context the use of information is strongly linked with the alleviation of disempowerment and deprivation. The use of information in such environments is unstructured and sources of information include magazines, experts, friends and random social encounters.
