9.5. Example Network

Figure 9.4 shows an example network. There are two target hosts, Windows and Linux, on an internal company network, and a web server on an isolated “demilitarized zone” (DMZ) network. One firewall separates the internal network from the DMZ and another firewall separates the DMZ from the rest of the Internet. An IDS watches the network traffic between the internal network and the outside world.
