Early in my career I worked for Knight Ridder, a US media company specializing in newspaper and Internet publishing. Until it was acquired by the McClatchy Company in 2006, Knight Ridder was headquartered in San Jose, California (see Figure 3-1) and was America’s second-largest newspaper publisher, with thirty-two daily newspapers.
