SMA Notice Support

Note that if a device is not enabled to send traps (see “GSM Enables Traps by Providing Its Location to the GSA” on page 793), events must be logged in the Notice queue (see “The Notice Queue” on page 806). The device's SMA must handle the following events in the manner described:

  • Port State Change. The SMA residing on the management port of a switch must monitor the SwitchInfo.PortStateChange bit for a transition from zero to one. If the management port supports Notices as indicated by the PortInfo.CapabilityMask.IsNoticeSupported bit, the SMA must log a notice for a port state change on a switch. The contents of the Notice are filled with the information defined in Table 29-9 on page 846.
