Unreliable Multicast Operational Rules

This list only includes implementation rules not already covered in this chapter:

  • Multicast UD packets may be transmitted on any data VL selected by the SLtoVLMappingTable (see “QoS within the Subnet: SL and VLs” on page 617). The use of VL 15 for multicast is prohibited (because it is reserved solely for SMps).

  • The LRH:SL used in a multicast packet may contain any SL as provided or derived from values provided by the SM.

  • Multicast UD groups may span multiple subnets. A multicast-capable router is required to forward packets toward other subnets that contain members of the group.

  • The GRH:SGID field must contain the GID address of the source port that initially injected the packet ...
