About the Author

Marcos Mendes was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He has a doctorate in economics from the University of São Paulo, Brazil, and a master’s and bachelor’s in economics from the University of Brasilia. Mendes has extensive experience as a public sector economist, having worked 25 years at Brazilian federal agencies such as the Central Bank and the Treasury Department. Since 1995, he has served as an economic consultant for the Brazilian Senate, being responsible for, among other things, studying the economic impact of bills under congressional debate.
