24.4 Cluster Analysis for Variables

Consider again the file CARS.MTW, already used in Chapter 3, that contains the following characteristics of a total of 236 cars:
Columna Contenido
C1 Maker
C2 Model
C3 Price (in Euros)
C4 Number of cylinders
C5 Displacement (cc)
C6 Power (CV)
C7 Length (cm)
C8 Width (cm)
C9 Height (cm)
C10 Consumption (liters/100 km)
C11 Maximum speed (km/h)
C12 Acceleration (seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h)

The technique is similar to the cluster analysis for observations, but now the aim is to group variables. This can be helpful to reduce their number grouping them into new ones, or just to have a list of the available ‘families’ of the variables.
