Abstract
Foundation fieldbus (FF), an all digital, bidirectional serial communication network meant for the communication of the smart devices or field instruments with the process control systems, is discussed in detail in this chapter. The topics include contents such as network classification and topologies and architecture. The chapter also deals with the physical layer concepts of the FF with the open system interconnect (OSI) and application-level protocols and some of the key technological concepts.
