PROFIBUS communication
Abstract
PROFIBUS (process field bus) is a standard for field bus communication which is widely used for process automation. PROFIBUS was first promoted by BMBF (German Department of Education and Research) in 1989 in cooperation with several automation manufacturers. Profibus modes of operation and its relevance in the OSI model of the communication are discussed. The different types of the Profibus and their topologies along with the physical layer of the same are dealt in this chapter.
