The industrial IoT – from horizontal platforms to vertical AI-powered solutions

The early years of the IIoT have been dominated by companies focusing on building platforms that will provide all of the plumbing work required to build IIoT applications. These platforms have been successful to some extent in providing core services but we are still in early days. There are technical problems that have not been solved yet such as connectivity in remote or hot environments. While the ultimate goal is to run AI on the data extracted from machines in the field, its still a challenge to get the data from these sources, as they are often without proper interfaces or don't support standard protocols.
