IoT connectivity – key infrastructure progress

The first step in the IoT has been connecting the devices to the cloud. There has been a lot of work done by carriers and providers on protocols to connect to the internet and we expect this field will also see interest and investment over the coming years. Here, we will provide an overview of the technologies that are available to use now and planned for future.

Connectivity type Technologies Use cases and future work
Short-range connectivity Z-wave Used primarily for home automation and within building connectivity. Some drawbacks such as power consumption and costs will be worked on in the coming years. IEEE standards such as 802.11ah and 802.11ax will be leveraged in these areas.
