Navigational DBMS

Navigational DBMS were developed back in the 1960s to handle large amounts of data. Their peculiarity is that they provide access to datasets via linked records. Depending on the flexibility of linking, such databases can use hierarchical- or network-type database interfaces.

Examples of navigational DBMS are IMS and IDMS.

In addition to the aforementioned DBMS, we would like to mention one more new and fast-growing type of data storages—blockchain.
