DON’T OVERDO IT

Let’s assume you’ve decided to take the D.I.Y. route and make your own record. Before we start itemizing the basics you’ll need to record, it’s worth reemphasizing a point we made in the beginning: with a little talent, knowledge, patience, and tenacity—and a very modest amount of gear—you can make a record that sounds quite good.
