Prologue
Olafur Ragnar Grimsson, the President of Iceland, was in New Delhi on the 14 January 2010. He had been conferred with the Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding for the year 2007, an award given for ‘outstanding contribution to the promotion of international understanding, goodwill and friendship among peoples of the world’.
Under normal conditions, this event would have had little effect on my daily routine. However, President Grimsson decided to bring along with him a 20-member business delegation and I was invited by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to meet the honoured guest and the business delegation over lunch at the Maurya Sheraton Hotel.
