It may be a bit surprising that the header for this chapter says “enablers” and not “services”. The point we are trying to make is that standard services like telephony, presence, and messaging deserve the designation “service” in the sense that they are directly visible and usable to the end-user, as opposed to under-the-hood functionality such as routing and media conversion.
