Building a Learning Community

Building community extends the learning process. Participants in IBM’s Basic Blue managerial training program—a blended learning experience—are assigned to learning groups of 10 to 20. They study together, learn together, and solve problems together. Many of the groups continue to network and learn from one another after the completion of the formal program.

Many organizations pair novice learners with experienced learners. The novice learns the ropes from the old hand. The old hand reinforces his or her own knowledge by instructing the novice. Both learn more than either would have on their own.
