Pull the Right Levers

Because organizations are systems (chapter 3), institutionalizing e-learning requires that you pull a number of levers. Aligning your human resource systems—particularly your performance management and compensation systems—is the one of first levers to pull to move toward embedding e-learning into your corporate culture. Why compensation is a lever goes without saying; people do what they are paid to do. Although it’s not typical to pay learners to take courses, there are other ways to financially reward learners, however. For example, your e-learning system can make it possible for employees to manage their own career development and prepare themselves for promotions and pay increases.
