I've enjoyed creating this document because I believe that portal technology will be a strong force in IT for some years to come. BEA WebLogic Portal is a fantastic product, and it will be only better in the months and years ahead. I hope this document has helped you understand the basic facets of portal administration, and that it will help you get off to a good start if you are new to this technology. What we discussed first was planning what we will do to create the portal. I wanted to outline the information you need to collect so you can create a successful installation. Integrating that process with the design decisions that need to be made will help you support a successful go-live with your portal project.
Executing the plan is straightforward if you use the GUI, and I tried very hard to point out where you might go astray with your installation. There is more than one way to skin a cat in IT, and creating a portal domain is no different.Automating the install with templates and scripting is an area that is ripe for research. I would encourage you to investigate the Domain Template Builder and the pack command to see if it fits with your IT needs.
