12Editing Audio

iMovie’s New Audio Approach

If you’re coming to iMovie ’09 from iMovie HD 6, audio editing looks downright perplexing. Audio clips are no longer restricted to just two tracks below the video track, but the new interface makes that difficult to discern. Don’t worry, though, it will start to make sense pretty quickly.

Unfortunately, a lot of audio functionality that finally made its way into iMovie HD 6 is absent in iMovie ’09. You don’t have as much control over audio within a clip, visual waveform display is gone in the main editing area, and the audio effects have also been silenced (including my favorite Noise Reducer).

Hopefully, Apple will roll these functions into later versions of iMovie or open up the program to third-party ...
