actively managed fund

A fund in which a manager conducts frequent transactions, research, and forecasts.

American Depositary Receipt (ADR)

A certificate issued by a U.S. bank representing a specified number of shares in a foreign stock traded on a U.S. exchange, facilitating purchase of shares in foreign companies.

arbitrage

A concurrent purchase and sale of an asset to profit from the price differential on separate exchanges.

balanced fund

A fund containing a mix of stocks, bonds, and money market instruments in a single portfolio.

basis point

Measure of 1/100th of 1 percent, used to calculate interest rates, equity indexes, and yield of fixed-income securities.
