IN CHAPTER 4 WE LOOKED at overcoming collective immunities, and in chapters 5 and 6 at overcoming individual immunities. We mentioned at the beginning of chapter 6 that Cathy’s individual change challenge emerged as part of a groupwide initiative with her whole marketing team. By taking a fuller look now at this collective endeavor, we can examine a single design that may be the most effective way to deliver on two fronts at once—facilitating individual adaptive change in the context of an intact group’s desire to improve its collective performance.
